Stainless Steel 304 pipe fittings include elbows, tees, crosses, and stub ends that bear up in many environments. Due to the high hot strength, Stainless Steel 304 elbows show a tendency for stress-corrosion cracking; on the other hand, Stainless Steel 304 tees show very good resistance to atmospheric corrosion, as well as moderately oxidizing and reducing conditions. It is also possible to weld stainless steel 304 crosses with minimal loss of their corrosion resistance. On the other hand, for optimal conditions so that maximal corrosion resistance in stainless steel 304 end caps can be attained, it has to be followed by final annealing above 1070°C, with rapid cooling.
These pipe fittings exhibit very good resistance to corrosion in a variety of chemicals, especially acid chloride environments, such as those found in pulp and paper mills. On the other hand, higher chromium, molybdenum, and nickel content in Stainless Steel 304 end caps enhances resistance to chloride pitting and general corrosion. Though non-magnetic in the annealed condition, Stainless Steel 304 fitting may become slightly magnetic due to welding.

Heat treatment: Heat to 1010-1120°C and then rapidly cool in air or water. Annealing: Soak at 816°C 1500°F and then water quench to give optimal properties.
