SANICRO 28 is a high-alloy, multipurpose austenitic stainless steel designed for long-term service in corrosive environments. It has excellent resistance to strong acids, such as sulfuric, nitric, phosphoric, and other corrosive acids, resists stress corrosion cracking and intergranular corrosion in various environments, and has excellent resistance to crevice and pitting corrosion cracking. SANICRO 28 has excellent weldability and is readily weldable by all conventional welding methods.
Its outstanding impact strength at moderate and cryogenic temperatures can be attributed to this austenitic microstructure. However, exposure over the long term above 1110°F must be avoided as embrittlement will occur through the precipitation of intermetallic phases
These flanges were initially used for applications in the chemical processing of phosphoric, nitric, sulfuric, and other aggressive acids. They can hence be used under highly elevated temperatures without being affected by pitting corrosion in aggressive environments. The alloy has high resistance to general corrosion and SCC due to the addition of 27% chromium and 31% nickel.
