17-4 PH Fasteners
17-4 PH is a martensitic stainless steel. The alloy composition of 17-4 PH stainless steel fasteners includes a high percentage of chromium, as well as nickel and chromium. This grade of martensitic stainless steel is formed by the precipitation of these three main elements and the addition of traces of niobium. Depending on the aging or precipitation temperature used to harden the alloy, 17-4 PH socket head screws can achieve a wide range of toughness and strength properties.
The advantage of using these 17-4 PH stainless steel screws is the low manufacturing cost. Since the tensile strength of this grade of stainless steel is really high, the buyer can choose to reduce the wall cross-section of the product. This leads to a reduction in the weight of 17-4 PH, which reduces the price. Although 17-4 PH set screws maintain their high resistance to high temperatures, they should not be used at temperatures exceeding 572°F (300°C), nor should 17-4 PH nuts be used in low-temperature applications.

To obtain the best mechanical strength, 17-4 PH stainless steel bolts must be hardened by heat treatment in the range of 900°F (482°C). Although the corrosion resistance of 17-4 PH bolts is better than that of many grades of stainless steel, 17-4 PH bolts are best suited for applications requiring high tensile strength and moderate corrosion resistance
